Here at Point Phillip we plant from
April to October. However there are some advantages to
Fall planting. Planting in the Fall is a very enjoyable
experience.
COOLR AIR TEMPERATURES
do not stress the plants (or the gardener) as much.
WARMER GROUND TEMPERATURE remains
well into the fall and help promote root growth until the
temperatures drop below 40 degrees.
ROOT DEVELOPMENT
receives more energy as plant growth has diminished.
LESS WATERING
is required since more moisture is generally available.
LESS EXPENSIVE
since many nurseries have sales.
PLANTS PURCHASED IN FALL
are usually larger and more mature.
EVALUATE THE SUCCESS
of your gardens and make changes and adjustments if needed.
This is the best time of the year to look for gaps in your
garden and to fill them.
WEEDS
are less prevalent in the Fall so newly placed plants do not
have weed competition.
JUMP START THE GARDEN -
you gain an entire season of growth!
